2 recessives? ...again

pheonix Dec 24, 2007 06:17 PM

I posted earlier the following:
Can you breed 2 recessives….say to get albino clown…If it’s possible would you breed them together and the clutch would be 100% double hets? then breed clutch back to the visuals to get the double recessive visual?
Unfortunately i got one person that said yes to the first part and no to the 2nd...and another that just said yes.
So assuming that the 1st part is correct...would i have to breed the double het siblings then?

Thanks!

You can breed the siblings together and get double visual recessives.

Let's say you breed an albino to a clown. You'd get all 100% het clown and albino.

If you bred them together, you could get:

Normals
Clowns
Clowns het alino
clown albinos
albinos het clown
het clowns
het albinos
and het albino and clown

I think I got them all...

I think it's like a 1 in 64 chance of getting the double recessive.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

It's a 1 in 16 chance of getting the albino clown....

Breed Albino and Clown together to get 100% Double Het Albino Clowns...

Then breed the DH's together to produce the Albino Clown...There is a 1 in 16 chance to produce the Albino Clown...

You could also produce in the clutch:

66% DH Albino Clown
Clowns 66% Het Albino
Albinos 66% Het Clown

Breeding two simple recessive together for example clown x pied ,the results would be 100% double hets , Then you would have to breed siblings , Double het x Double het ,This will give you a 1 in 16 chance od producing a clownpied.....

Lets give the piedxclown a name of Clownpie......
The expected out come would be

1 normal
2 het for pied
2 het for clown
4 double het for clownpie
2 clown het for clownpie
2 pied het for clownpie
1 pied
1 clown
1 clownpie

So what does that mean is this
out of 16 eggs (ya right)Maybr two clutches

9 babies would look normal....1 normal,2 het pied,2het clown,4 double hets

2 visual clowns het pied
2 visual pieds het clown
1 pied
1 clown
1 clownpie I would take that clutch anyday !

So 3 would look clown,3 would look pied, 1 would hopefully be clown pie and 9 normal looking.

thanks so much! My goodness that's a lot of possibilities. I can't even begin to see how you try and isolate the double recessive visual...appears you'd almost have to keep the entire clutch for inbreeding with there being so many hets involved. I'm many years from this even being a thought for me but at least i know where to start....when i get to that point i'll be asking you guys how to go about breeding the clutch...
thanks to all!
