and please this is in know way a slam or critism on to way you treat your animals Jen. I am just affraid to put my snakes on the ground or any other substrate or branch that hasn't been treated or rendered safe. I would love to hear peoples view on this. I see alot of picks with animals in the grass or on plants/trees. Heck I use to do it, but is it safe or an unneccesary risk?

Jeff, Who sprays the ground in Africa, Before the ball crawls out of the egg? LOL!

LOL! He probably sat there for less then 2 minutes while I snapped his picture. It's not like he was eating the dirt.....
Again my comment/question was not aimed at you, but if you brought home a brand new Rolex, would you lay that in the dirt for even thirty seconds? I know I wouldn't.
And I sure ain't gonna take a chance with any part of a $XX,000.00 collection. But I do want to know what other people think about it.
Jeff
but they come in covered with mites, ticks and internal parasites. I read alot of post on here about how people sterilize their tubs or enclosures. Who does that in Africa? LOL
I just remember as a kid with my first Boa. I would take out and let it crawl around in small trees. I ended up with a bad case of mites. Now I have heard that snake mites only come from Africa, but I had one snake and only went to pet stores to buy feeders.
Is it possible that mites came in on the mice? yea, sure, but I don't take any chances anymore. Damn, I don't even let my animals crawl on the carpet because I have my yard sprayed and rarely take my shoes off after coming inside. But maybe I'm just "PARANOID". Who said that? Darn there I go again.
Personally, I take mine out for a stretch every warm day I can. Have never had trouble with mites from out in the yard. I don't spray. The bugs are food for other things and some of the weeds are also
. Jusy my two cents.

Thanks Quig, What part of the country are you in? I'm in west central FL. (a lot of warm days) If we don't spray the chinch bugs and fire ants will take over.
Jeff
Good point. I'm in Michigan, not enough warm days
. Got my share of ant problems up here. Thank God they aren't fire ants though.

Wow, that was one of the more anal things I've read on here in a couple days. That wasn't a comment to be mean, just my first thought. Let your snakes out once in a while...!
I have and will continue to let my snakes take a few minutes out in the grass on nice warm days......no worries at all!
Jason
Out where? On the ground. Why? How often do you thing Kevin, Brian or Tracy take their snakes out and them crawl around on the ground? I recently listened to Jeremy Stone on BlogTalk. His crew mops the floor with Reptile Relief. He repeatedly mentioned hand washing. Do you think thats anal? I don't. Plenty of people post here that they treat the tubs with PAM on a regular basis. Why? What are they affraid of? Mites don't come from thin air. They are brought in. I don't treat for anything thing unless its needed. Prevention is worth a pound of cure. And as far as my fear of pesticides. Well I have an unpleasent experience with that. One Female Redtail dead, three Indian Pythons with neurological damage. If you don' think that its possible, just ask the person who posted a while back about loaning his vaccum cleaner to someone that used it to vaccum up flea powder. I don't remember what their total death count was. But I do remember how unhappy they were. Not fun. I am just curious how many people practice letting their animals crawl around on the ground or in bushes and what if any negatives they have noticed. And no worries about being mean. I have a pretty thick skin. And hey it is anal, but thats what I think it takes for me to keep MY collection clean and safe.
Jeff
You might know him?
