Many Copulations, yet still no ovulation

happysurgeman Dec 26, 2007 12:07 AM

breeding for the first time this year. female is '05 and 1500 grams. male is '06 and 700 grams. they have locked up twice a week since Dec.1
so 6 or 7 times. yesterday i seperated them after i witnessed no copulation after 48hrs.

is someone infertile? or is it common to copulate this much before ovulation?...........or did they not lock up because she is about to ovulate soon???

thanks in advance

It's too soon. You'd be the luckiest SOB on the forum to get a female to ovulate in less than a month.

Have you checked for follicles? They can copulate 1000 times, but the female still will not ovulate until her follices are ready. Also, there is really no reason to have your male breed her so often. Once or twice a month is fine IMO and it will keep your male from getting to worn out.

I don't feel even a bit optomistic until I've seen 3 to 5 hookups-and even then it's usually a month or so to ovulation!

most are in those months I think........

mine....here......from 29 clutches ..some are later than that.and I start breeding in Novenber...even October sometimes.

they lay when they want.

as a WISE man told me....breed them till she is setting on eggs.....then you know she's gravid
