Guatemalan species

puntaegress Dec 26, 2007 11:02 AM

I came across a picture on the web today. I know it's not a pit but what a wonderfully colored snake it is. Can anybody tell me what species it is? The guy that took the picture doesn't seem to know either. Link is http://guatemalainpictures.com/colorful-snake-on-the-road/

Neat looking animal. Look at the Genus Ninia. Possibly Ninia sebae. The key I used asked for some info that was not available with that image but it seems to match some images in Gunther Kohler's "Reptiles of Central America" book. The animal pictured also seems to be giving a display typical of the Genus.
