BEARDIE SALADS...

louiec Aug 25, 2003 05:37 PM

So I went to my trhe supermarket on the way home from work, I stopped at a STOP & SHOP... AND I picked up a small container of Spring Mix (STOP & SHOP brand) it contains Organic Baby Lettuce, Chards, Spinach, Mustard Greens, Edives, Tat-Soi, Arugula, Radicchio, and Beet Greens.

is all that good for beardies?? I plan on mixing in some mixed vegetables and some collard greens as well...

how does that sound?? good? for a salad?

its not too bad if mixed with collards i think you just have to watch they arent getting the spinach, mustard greens, chard and baby lettuce every day, those are not daily feeding greens. The collards, endive, raddiccio, tat soi should be great, i am uncertian about arugula and beet greens.

what I might do then is serve him this salad every other day...

and on the off days... where I do not serve him salad.. serve him pellets since those are a meal supplement (supposedly)

how does that sound??

he should have his salad every day IMO, just use a base of collard greens and then add things to that like endive escarole etc, you can even use the collard greens and add small amounts of the mixed salad to it that you bought, its best he has his salad daily.

I must have missed something when doing my research.
I don't remember ever seeing anything about Mustard greens being bad to feed daily.
I feed my beardie a daily salad of.. Romaine lettuce, mustard greens, collard greens, kale, shaved carrots and shaved sweet potatoes.
He doesn't usually eat all of his salad but he does eat a little several times a day. I put a fresh mix in daily and feed him his crickets twice a day.
He gets his calcium/d3 on his crickets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
I am looking for some kind of beardie treats to go along with this but I thought this seemd like a pretty good diet.
Please inform me if I am wrong.
Any other suggestions on treats and diet supplements also welcome.

That sounds good to me, pretty close to what I feed mine and what I've seen recommended on other sites....I'm no expert and not a breeder, so I may be wrong, too.

That's what we use, it's the only greens he will eat! That and Kale. He doesn't like the spinach, and it's not the best for him, so I usually pick it out.

It is high in Oxalic Acid, which binds calcium.
