Dexter's first shed!

EddieF Dec 26, 2007 05:06 PM

I happen to be walking by Dexter's tank this morning and was lucky enough to just catch him ZIPping right out of his shed! Very fast. No problems. He didn't feel like eating when he was in blue so I fed him immediately after. He ate two of these three and is doing great. He looks awesome right after his shed, but you know how hard it is to get good pics. He's so small, I don't want to make him uncomfortable so I just snap a shot when I can here and there. But he's doing great.

Velvet Ant(Dasymutilla occidentalis) This colorful ground wasp has a sting so potent that it also earned the nickname "cow killer"

That is a good protocol pic of feeding on substrate via a container. That pic would make it easy to explain to a new person how it could be done to avoid substrate ingestion. Good job and Dexter is lookin' good!

Thanks Todd. All three of our snakes get fed that way, in their enclosure but in tupperware. The bigger ones I need to keep a close eye on, as they'll sometimes come out if they're squirming around trying to get their mice down. But generally it's been working great!
