Curious...

senorsnake Dec 26, 2007 09:16 PM

Looking at all the breeding pictures this season, I always think its funny how small the males look next to their female counterparts...

I was wondering, what is the size of everyone's smallest breeder male? I know 18 months is the general rules for males, but people don't usually mention the size for them. Some of these guys look tiny, but it may just be next to those big ole' girls :P

I like this pic:

Under 4' and less than 2 lbs. I've never weighed him to be sure, but I have a larger male that is 2lbs. She is shy of 7ft and 17lbs.

Granted being a Sonoran Leopard they are a dwarf boa. So comparison to say a Colombian male wouldn't be good. He's an '05 so 2.5 years old.

That's as young as I've tried with my boas.

Don't push a boa to breed at 18 months. I imagine some will be ready, but most won't. It's better to take it slow and give them an extra year.

Here's another size comparison pic. he's under 2 lbs and close to 3 yrs old. I have tried breeding at 18 months old, but never been successful . Though it can be done, often its not. I raise mine slower, and almost always have great success with males at 2 1/2 yrs old.

Ive succesfully breed lots of 3'ft plus males at about 2.5 yrs. old. I like to keep my males small. My males range from 3'ft. to 5'ft. max.

Heres a 3'ft. plus albino on a ghost female thats about 6'ft. plus.

Curious how you "keep your males small"? I feed all my Boas the same, always have, and My males have always been a little smaller than my females just naturally. Don't have to keep them small, they do it them selves.

I had to ask, as I seem to read this a lot.

Really got a kick out of all those pictures, I guess some of them really are just as small as they look.
