no interest..................

magicalmorphs Dec 26, 2007 11:00 PM

I have 4 females that are up to size and 2 males. The males are a pastel and a mojave. The pastel has bred 2 of the females and the mojo has no interest in any of them. Since they're both codom's i even put him in with the 2 the pastel bred. Is it common to have a male that has no interest in breeding? This is his first season and he's 950g, but my pastel bred last year at 700. Thanks in advance!

I posted this before, but my mojave male showed no interest at first either. My spider male was breeding like crazy, so I put the two in the same tub for 30 seconds and let them combat each other for a short bit. That little chunk of sparring time was enough to kick the mojave's breeding drive into gear and he's been a stud ever since. You might give it a shot and see how it goes.

I tried that too. I had my mojo in with a big girl for 3 days and no signs of interest so I put in my pastel that had bred 2 other girls and there was no combating and neither seemed interested. I wont give up yet though. I'll seperate and try again.

I introduced the mojave into the spider's tub -- his territory, no female -- while the spider was in breeding mode. Maybe that's the difference?

Are you positive that your mojave is indeed a male?

I'm sure. I bought a pair from Brandon Boeke of priceless pythons. I also popped him to be positive and he has sperm pluggs.

You need to remember that these are animals - and animals aren't necessarily on your schedule - they kind of have a mind of their own. He will breed when he is ready you can do a bunch of different tricks to help him on his way - but there are no guarantees. Take solace in the fact that it is still early in the season - he may just need some more time to mature or get in the mood. I've got an 18 month 1200 gram cinny that doesn't want to have anything to do with the ladies - I've tried every trick in the book aside from sending him to JAS to get him to breed. It's frustrating but you can only do so much to help nature on it's course.

Good luck.

I'm having the same problem with my Mojave and my Enchi. Both seem to be courting a very little bit but neither has hooked up. My Spider, Cinny, and Pastel have been breeding since October. Patience is a virtue, but they run thin LOL!

I agree with Tosha, sometimes animals will drive you nuts. It is still early in the year and a lot of my males will start up around mid January and even some wait until Febuary. My guess is that he'll figure it out and you'll be fine. Remember if every male bred right away we wouldn't have anything to stress out about.lol Good luck! Brian (BHB)

Are you sure he's not breeding? I've got a male who has sired clutches for me every year for the past several years and I have never seen him breeding OR courting. Maybe he's just really quick or likes to do it in the middle of the night when nobody is around?

My lemon pastel was a little reluctant this year. These are the "tricks" that I did. I can't say which one did the trick.

Night before pairing, put the shed of a different female in with him, put sperm plug of another male on female's back, misted the pair when they were together. That worked for one female.

The other female I put him in with a female in shed, misted them, and put him in the night before a cold front with rain moved in.

I still mist them and that seems to be enough now.
