Sudanese breeding pair

sojmed Dec 27, 2007 07:15 AM

Hi there - this is my first post. I acquired a male and female Uro pair earlier this year. According to the seller they are about 1 - 1.5 years. We belieive they are Sudanese. They are eating well, and especially like bok choy and pomegranate. In the last few days the make has been bobbing constantly and yesterday attempted mating. However the female rolled onto her back so I don't know if mating was successful. Is this a sign of rejection? How long will it take for successful mating? We keep them at 90 degrees. Is this warm enough and how can I increase the temp. if necessary? Thanks for any responses.

All Uros need a temperature GRADIENT from a hot side of 95-100 degrees to a cool side of 80-85 degrees. They also need a basking surface temp of anywhere from 120-135 degrees. Without these proper temps, they can't regulate their body heat properly and they can't digest their food properly. You also need to have digital thermometers to measure the hot and cool temps, and you should have an IR temp gun to measure the surface of the basking area. What size of enclosure do you have them in?

I've also heard that Uros don't really mature until they're at least two, and more like three years old. If yours are only 1 or 1.5 years old, I can't see that it would be good for them to be mating and laying eggs. They should probably be fully grown before that happens, but that it just what I've heard and not from personal experience.
