Here are some updates and pics. I moved the gilleni crosses into a new cage and have seen some breeding and I have see lots of breeding with my jobiensis, no eggs yet. I will put in lots of leaf litter and see what happens. They are still in with the gouldi cross, and are still all getting along great, growing, and eating like pigs. I am really enjoying them. Happy Holidays. Enjoy. Tyler.

my male peachie, my favorite monitor I have.

Why have your Jobiensis lost so many toes?

Only my female has. She had already lost them when I got her. My male has all his toes, How are the eggs coming? Tyler.

The first clutch is still incubating good!
I just moved them into a much larger enclosure, I'll post photos soon.
The reason I ask about the toes is, one time I had a 1.2 trio of Jeweled Lacertas. The substrate I used would cake up on the toe tips. I had to soak, then remove this build up to prevent blood supply loss to the toes which if not taken care of would eventually cause the toes to fall off.

I changed the substrate and the problem was gone...I think clay had a big role in this.
Good Luck and Happy New Year!

Thanks for your concern. The dirt is the same dirt that I use for all my monitors, and I have not had any problems with toe loss on any of them. The female peachie has not lost any new toes since I have had her. When I got her she was in really bad shape. I had some toe loss problems with some ackies a few years ago, but ever since I stoped using screen tops I have not had this problem again. Good luck with the eggs, I can't wait to see some cb peachies. Tyler.

Tyler
In the 3rd photo of your orginal post, your "cross" seems to have a good amount of dry substrate caked on all of his nails.

I hear you about Jobiensis (most imported species) and the condition of which they arrive in.
My breeder female has lost a few toes, my secondary pair I raised up from imported hatchlings are perfect.
Good Luck with all your Monitors!

Do your jobiensis stick out their tongues when they get upset? I have noticed this in mine and have not seen it in any other monitors. Tyler.

Tyler
I have noticed my Jobiensis with their tongue tips out like your photo.
I will have to pay more attention to when they do this to draw any conclusions as to why.

I have a couple of male melinus that sometimes stick out the tip of their tongue like that. It seems to be when they are feeling defensive. Cheers

Hello
Could you compare the peachie and cross monitors in terms of demeanor and boldness. Do they both have a strong feeding response? Why is the male your favorite? Thanks
