a few Boa ?'s

PhillyBoyInTN Dec 27, 2007 10:34 PM

I may be way off base but I figured there is a big difference in the different lines of snakes hence the difference in price. For example, I would assume that a Sharp Albino is considered nicer then a Kahl Albino noting the difference in price. Is this exactly the case and if so what would be considered the nicest line of Snow Boa? Is there a line that doesn't darken as it ages or that darkens less then the others?

As far as sunglows go (I'm new at this so please nobody take offense) the nicest looking one that I've seen (in pictures and strictly my opinion) was a lipstick line sunglow. Is this considered to be near top of the line or how are they compared to others?

One more boa genetics question:

Snow X Sunglow (results and percent)

Thanks in advance!

Sharp albinos are rarer than Kahl albinos. Crossing Kahl x Sharp is reputed to produce double hets that look normal.

Snow X Sunglow -->
1/2 albino het anerythristic
1/2 sunglow het anerythristic

Thanks for the reply. Is there anyone on here who tried to cross both albino lines? Also, what about the lipstick line sunglows vs others?

The cross was done by Brian Sharp. He bred a het Kahl Male to his albino female. Litter was 17 all normal looking babies. To avoid the genetic nightmare of figuring out what was what, they were all sold as normals to the pet trade, NOT as breeders. Of course they could have been bred but the eventual owners would not know of the possible hidden genes.

This info came directly from Brian.

I'm sure people are crossing the lipsticks into other lines. Many people have one lipstick and one from another lines and they have babies and they are labeled as LIPSTICKS when they are nothing more than 50% lipstick while others will look more of the part than next. Then that low grade baby that looks like the non-lipstick parent then mates with another line and they are labeled lipsticks too like the first jackass but unfortunatley it happens and it sounds better to have a lipstick line than another and that is marketing for you. Find out where the parents were acquired from which is great if they have a website as they should have and all their breeders pictured, produced by who is always an extra and is worth it IMO. hope it helps and best of luck to you

A lot of people just have Sunglows from Lipstick bloodlines, but aren't lipsticks themselves, and are labeled as such.

Same goes for a lot of lineage related morphs and traits.
