Hatching Question

j3nnay Dec 28, 2007 12:39 AM

I have a clutch of eggs that, when I found them, were stuck together in a nice pyramid shape. However, during the course of incubation, the top egg dried up and died in the first week. About a month after, another egg followed, and another week after that, a third egg. (Hovabators frustrate me)
There is an egg, a good one, underneath the three on top that shrivelled and died. I have one baby that has started pipping early, which made me wonder - should I do anything special for that egg that's totally underneath all the other eggs? I mentioned the dead eggs because if necessary, I could cut through them down to the good egg...
But, it seems a little excessive, since I'm sure in the wild eggs pile like this all the time with no hitches.

Does anyone have suggestions? Telling me to just leave it alone is fine, and honestly, what I'm hoping I'll hear. :D Cutting through old eggs is NOT what I want to do.

Thanks in advance!

Jenny, You might want to use some dental floss to cut between the eggs. I do this when I get a pile of eggs . Have someone hold the good eggs still while you saw between them . Good luck Claude
