Ball python not using heat pad.....

Aleda Dec 28, 2007 11:41 AM

Hi everyone I am a first time snake owner. I have had Pedro for about 2 mths now. Up until the last 2 wks he would sleep over his heating pad and sometimes bask under the heat lamp. Here lately he has not been getting on the heat pad or under the light. He goes under the newspaper on the cool side of his cage. He is eating every Sunday and pooing once a wk but I have noticed his poo is not black here lately it is very small yellow is that normal? Is it ok for him to not be using the heat pad? Any help is geatly appreciated. I love my boy and want to make sure he stays healthy.

I don't think that there's any reason for you to worry about your new baby not using the heat pad... He will thermoregulate himself. That's the point of giving him a warm and cool side: so that he can choose for himself.

As for the small white/yellow droppings, that's called urates. It's totally normal, and it's the reptile equivalent of urinating.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask! Have fun with your new snake, he's a cute chubby little guy!
