PROBLEM WITH GREEN TREE PYTHON

swara Aug 25, 2003 06:34 PM

I picked this GTP up from the show in Daytona, and I didn't handle it really till today. Ever since the Show he held his mouth a lil open on one side, which I thought was normal. Well Today I decided to look closer at what was going on (today was the first day I got up the nerve to try to hold him. I've tried the last few days, and it keeps striking at me) I was able to sneak up on him and grab behind his head so he couldn't tag me. It looks like the right bottom front part of his jaw is damaged in some way. The opposite side when pressure is asserted a pretty large tooth comes out, on the other side though there's just this white cartlidge object hanging where that tooth should be. He can not close his mouth all the way cause of this object (I think it is his tooth that was broke some how, but I can not tell)

I am going to post this on as many forms as I can, I do not have the money for a vet bill right now, if push came to shove I will give him away to someone that will take care of him and this problem. I will be able to put some pictures up by Tomorrow night.

Here is a diagram of the area affected.

You shouldn't have picked up that Python unless you could afford the vet bill. Obvious signs of damage should have ensued. I've purchased a blood python with scalation problems, knowingly having to pay a vet bill. Bad judgement on your part.

So someone asks for help on this forum and you just scold them for instead of helping?
Look Tomato if you weren't going to help you should have kept your mouth shut. I'm sure the guy feels bad enough having spent the money and now having a problem with it. Have a little compassion.

I feel bad for that snake-and even more so knowing it cant get to the vet now. The two mistakes he/she made were 1) not knowing something was wrong with the snake in the first place. All begginer python books say to examine your possible new snake thoroughly. The second mistake is not having vet money. That is what I call irrisponsible pet ownership. I do not believe in buying an animal unless you can TAKE CARE of it in full.

PS- I realised swara asked for help and not scoldings-but I think the only help anyone would give someone in this situation would be to take it to a herp vet. Thats my piece of advice. Want to have a go rudedogsurfrat?

You're right. The post was asking for help, not asking if he should have bought the snake. Tormato should have kept his mouth shut, since he obviously has no useful input to give. But, that's the thing. Some newbies don't really know much of anything, so they feel the need to bash on others to make themselves feel more knowledgeable. Tormato is a perfect example.

BTW, Several others and myself gave him some pointers on the Bob Clark forums and the snake is fine.

So your willing to fight for swara's feelings over the messed up snake? Lets just say that snake wasn't fine...and it was suffering from serious mouth rot. It doesn't bother you in the least bit that swara wasn't prepared to take care of the snake if it was actually in need of medical attention? Is that all your two-bit mind can process?..."keep your trap shut" ? What do you have to say for yourself?

The 'point' sir, of the Forums is to freely share information. I'm not aware of anyone who hasn't missed something at some point upon the aquisition of a reptile. Your stance is pompous and irrelevant. One of the greatest parts of this fascination with reptiles is learning. Lack of funds is not a low class problem. It's all relative. I think an individual can learn a hell of alot more here asking questions than immediately heading off to the vets for a potentially narrow view/treatment of the symptoms and not necessarily the cause. Not to say that is the norm with vets, they are another wealth of information. The 'point' is, the person you so easily write off as being irresponsible is seeking knowledge, which in my mind is the most responsible action a concerned person can take. So piss off.

Its people like you that we dont need in this trade. Jumping the gun and shooting down newbies, which you probably are in the first place. "want to have a go?" "go play in the streets?" I dont even have responses to things so childish. Just go. Your presence is pointless. Also, dont bother responding, because we all know what your going to say to me.

Have a nice day,
Chris Foley
