Is there a reason for this?

Hello,
I've had both of my corns for 2 years. They're individually housed and are doing great. I have 2 totally enclosed hides in each cage and one half log. Pictures are below. In the first picture. The half hide is what is covered with the plants in the middle. My corn spends 95% of his time in this. The warm hide is 80-85 and the cool at 70. He fits snugly in both, yet spends all of his hiding time in the middle. Also with the second cage. The half hide is all the way to the right. She also spends 85 percent of her time in this which is the cool side. She again has access to 2 hides that she fits in perfectly. Do they hide in these because they are more natural feeling? I know that corns are said to feel more secure in a more closed off hide, but that doesnt seem to be the case for my 2. I just bought a cork bark round to replace the middle hide in the second pic with. She never goes in it so I figure I'd replace it with the type she seems to prefer. I plan to cover that with a plant. So is this unusual?

They like what they like I have a bp that has 2 hides that she fits into and one that she can hadly squeeze into anymore. When the heater went out the cool side was in the 50's and the warm side around 75-80 she still stayed on the cool side even though it was in the 50's......

yes, it's pretty normal.
My snakes spend about 90% of their time under their water bowls which are all positioned on the cool sides.
As long as they have the oportunity to go to a warmer area as they need, all is well.

I'm often surprised how cool snakes prefer to be when they have a choice of temperature options. I suppose that's why the idea of a thermal gradient is so important. It looks like you've got good setups for your snakes!

There's always a reason.

I would suggest you move the hide with the plants over it, that the snake is using about 85% of the time, to the warm end, and see what happens.

Just a thought. Later...
