Jackson vs. Panther

micky-kennie Aug 25, 2003 06:51 PM

What do you guys think? I debating whether to get a single male panther, or a pair of Jacksons to breed. I have a cage already and am all set up for 1 chameleon, but could easily make a second setup for a second (jackson). I can't afford to purchase a pair of Panthers to breed, if I buy one he would be put in the cage I already have set up. Just wanted everyone's thought's on this. Thanks!

What do you want to do?

Here is what I would suggest...

Get the single Panther now - start with a male. Get it set up and get some experience with him. build the other cage and save your $ for a mate.

That way you can get the know how to be able to take care of lots of babies and a gravid female.

hope that helps

I agree, get a panther first. Jackson babies are not the easiest to raise! they require a lot more work than a single chameleon-ALOT MORE!! Find a baby Panther, you should be able to pick one up for around $100-$200. As you gain experience, your Panther will gain in worth! You might be able to sell or trade him for a couple of panthers/or jacksons later on down the road. Or keep him and buy more!

Vet bills are expensive. Kammer is where I will buy my next Panther or Mythical or Amazing Blue. My last panther I bought was a female that I bought someplace cheap. She came to me with edema already and did not last six months. When I took her to the vet she had Parasites and Giardia.
$250.00 is a reasonable amount to pay for a panther and that is what Kammer charges. All my other Panthers are over a year and a half old so I know her death was not due to my husbandry. After spending several hundred more for her at the vet she died anyway.
I would have done better spending more for a quality animal from someone who cared and knew what they were doing.
The reason I say this is just to save someone else from the heartache and expense I went through and maybe they can learn from my mistake. Not to piss anyone off because this is just my opinion anyway Good luck finding your new panther cham.

kammerflage went above and beyond for me and for that i will always recomend them first. i don't believe them to be over priced but i suppose it all depends on how much you are willing to spend and what you what. i have recently also gotten to personnally seen amazing blues chameleons and can honestly say they have some beautiful animals. although i have never seen mythical's chameleons i have ONLY heard great things about them as keepers. i think one of the things i remember hearing was he is one of the best retiple Vet's on the country and has an excellant diet for chameleons.

regardless of WHO you buy your chameleon from one of the factors you should consider is service before and after the purchase. you won't take your kid to the cheapest babysitter in town, you would want to make sure you child is being taken care of. the same goes for chameleons. you should consider what kind of support they are willing to give to you after you take your chameleon home and that they honestly care about the animals they are selling and not just in it to make a buck. if this means you spend a few more dollars then so be it. save your money and get the chamelon you want from who you want. if you end up having to wait to bring yoor chameleon home it will give you that much more time to iron out the bugs in the chameleons new home. i waited 2 months and had the cage operating for a month as though there was a chamleon in it. just to make sure there were no hick ups. money shouldn't be the only factor in selecting a pet...any pet.

The Kammers really go that extra mile to be helpful, distribute good information and deliver great animals. I purchased 5 chameleons from her this year, and have been very satisfied with every animal that was shipped to me.

You can always find "cheap" chameleons. It all comes down to trust. With every purchase from the Kammers, I don't have to worry about anything except being ready when they get here.

I have been in the chameleon trade for many years. I have been lied to and robbed blind by breeders that I didn't know. When you find good people in the industry, embrace them and keep em in business.
