'02 Burlington Co. New Jersey Eastern Kingsnake

willstill Aug 25, 2003 07:04 PM

Hi all,

This is a yearling female eastern king descended from Burlington NJ stock. She is a very deep black, almost indigo with grey to white chain markings. She is going through an interesting color shift as her chain markings get dramatically whiter and brighter with each shed. she has only shed twice in my care so far, but the fading of the grey color has been considerable. Keith remarked on a more advanced stage of the same phenomena in his yearling Burlington male, a very big brother of the snake pictured.

I feel really lucky to have acquired this animal, she is an archetypal northern eastern king. Thanks for looking.

Will

Hi Tim,

Actually, I'm glad you brought her personality up. She is absolutely the most gentle, calm eastern king I have ever had the pleasure of caring for. She very gently takes pre-killed, adult mice from my fingers. she glides up, gives it a swipe of the tongue and calmly takes the food animal out of my hand. This is in stark contrast to my non-locale, Outer Banks, and GA easterns, who are savage in their feeding reactions. I open all of my Georgia king enclosures (juvs-adults) with caution, they always, in shed or not, greet me with a gaping maw and lateral open mouth swipes; like the Thai retics I once kept(and never, ever, will again). They just seem to connect most initial moments of interaction with the chow bell.

But this little NJ girl is very ladylike and gentle. She almost seems like a little snob with her Yankee lineage and all. She's a trophy!
