Gus, as always, you slay me! That speckled racer has eluded me for years, I live just a little far to get the shot regularly, but my day will come! All the other shots are perfect, what a great year!

Thanks! These things are neat to see! But will (very) soon be gone..

South Texas is disapppearing under Wal Marts, Outlet Malls and housing developments.. Even the canals and drainage ditches are no longer haven for herps.. everything is scoured clean for flood control..

Bye Bye! (my old friends).

You certainly have my prayers! I am wondering if these cannot be relocated, (I know, fantasy) by TPWD onto some riparian areas on the King and Yturrias ranches, or somewhere near where their are still sabal palm communities. Maybe the wildlife refuge near Raymondville? I think there are some resaca-like ditches in that one, although the last time I was there, I saw a dor indigo IN the refuge! I hope we can come up with something, I have a grandson coming and want to show him some stuff!

Todd-I am not a snake man (at least anymore was 30 years ago) but here in Medina County off 1343 there are many times we see indigo's out here. There must be some kind of healthy population out here I am thinking. I've seen many run over as well in the last 5 years I have lived here, big and small. There are small canals and tanks and streams and creeks all over this area out here and I have seen the shed skin from one on my in-laws property.
This may be a dumb question but is there some interest in repatriating these or putting them on a protected land area? Couldn't this actually be done? A proper proposal with a permit and possibly a grant and who's land? It would have to be the right terrain and have good animal life, but if they can repatriate other reptiles why not these? I think encroachment seems to be one of the biggest issues with the demise of many of these reptiles? More than any environmental factor. Cheers!
