My insane bloodred at it again.

HerpZillA Dec 30, 2007 12:55 PM

I opened my big males bloodred tub. He stuck about 4 times, this is very normal.

He then coils waiting as I think he knows there must be a mouse or 2 coming.

I toss one in,, and in mid air he catches the mouse by the tail. The mouse is now running in place, spinning up aspen. Sorry PETA, I was busting a gut.

Now my male BR is thrashing him around. I thought about trying to get it out to feed in a more proper way. But by then he was coiling the mouses tail. MAN I wish I had video of this.

The mouse is still pealing up aspen. The BR release his grip and and releases his bite and quickly rebies the tail. Now he goes in to this massive constriction rolling all over the cage.

I ran to reach my cam, and could not find it, so I found my cell phone. This is what I caught as that rolling ended with him finially getting ahold of the body of the mouse. But still had the mouse by the tail.

This snake is nuts. But man do I love him.

Probably have less trouble if you fed pre killed

Maybe. And he takes dead. But he seems to enjoy the natural way so much. He could take a small rat, although his head is a bit small. I keep him on mice for a little more safety to him.

I hope when I use him as a breeder that feeding responce carries over to his babies.

hey tom,
my blood red has the same feeding response but i feed mine f/t .
shell actually come up out of the enclosure and grapple it before i have a chance to release the tweezers. a couple of times i had to leave the tweezers with the mouse in her cage because she had coiled both.

This is why it is not recommended to feed in the snakes enclosure! Unless you like gettig bit when you pick the snake up. However some snakes are crazy when it comes to feeding time. I just don't like getting bit by an adult corn.(what a wimp am I)
