Rhino poop

traction Dec 30, 2007 02:08 PM

Ok, I have a question. My 3 year old rhino ig has, well, watery feces. Without trying to be too graphic, it always has the consistency of very wet mud, or wetter (he also urinates a large amount, but that is not a concern to me).

My spiny-tail ig poops "normal", meaning that it is wet, but formed. Not a pile of mush like the rhino's. They both eat the same things (generally collard greens & mustard greens, 2 types of squash, and a little fruit).

Is this normal, or is there something that could be causing it? Is there something I can feed or do to correct it if it is not normal?

Thanks!

Not normal. Poops get watery when trying new foods, otherwise check for parasites.

trac,
I had the exact same thing with my cornuta. It is not normal, it looks like green apple sauce. If you havent changed his food lately it is probably a parasite like has already been said. Get a fecal done and be prepared for antibiotics. I forget what I had but it was a tough bug to beat but it worked and then my rhino reinfected himself, 4x! I finally kicked it by changing substrate that I couldnt clean thorough enough and changing some other things. I bet you will find that after he is clean he will put on a bunch of weight.

Does it smell bad, too? I think it is parasite...that or your rhino has been drinking a lot of water after he eats. I know when I spray my green iguana salad his poop is kindda water, but when I stop it was normal again.
