Last clutch of the year?

j3nnay Dec 30, 2007 07:39 PM

Do I get that honor?

I think all I'm getting is four babies. There are two more eggs that haven't pipped on their own, but are fully developed (I cut a little and peeked)... However, I think the dead eggs were just too much for the last two and they didn't make it out.

However! My four babies are gorgeous, fat, and healthy. Weights were : 74 g, 82 g, 78 g, and 64 g. The first baby had some umbilical issues, but the cord is definately drying up and the belly button is closing up (see last pic). Another baby had an open belly button, but that too is closing up. The other two are perfect!

Clutch (You can see Umbilical Baby curled up in the corner):

And the umbilical on its way out:

Thanks for looking!

Big congrats! They look great - I love seeing nice fat babies. They're so cute, now I want my girls to hurry up and give me eggs, lol.
Btw, I figured out what the deal was with my brother's Spider. Somehow the heat cable got pulled out from under his his tub so his tub was cooler than everyone elses (the room is heated so it was still in the low 80s, but it was enough of a difference to make him digest slower than everyone else). Needless to say, the cable is now very, very secure!

They're cute and gorgeous! :D
I swear I have snake ESP - I always wake up when I have an escape in the night (I've never lost a snake for more than 10 minutes), and after the babies had pipped, I would wake up every time one came out. This morning was fun - I woke up three times, (3 am, 6 am, 7:30 am), to three babies just as they were crawling out of the eggs.

It was kinda creepy.

Is that the clutch from the female you were transporting while you were getting away from the fires?

My snakes aren't fat, they're big boned.

It sure is! She laid a week after we got home. Kinda disappointed that only half the clutch (that was fertile) hatched, but hey, it could have been none so I'll take what I can get!

sweet! are they het for anything or normals? sex them yet? congrats

j3nnay Dec 31, 2007 10:26 AM

Normals as far as I know! Dad looked like something interesting, but since the babies all look like crazy patterned versions of their half-siblings from last year... Mom's genes seem to have won out.

Siiiiiigh.

Thanks!

It turns out that the last two babies were, for some reason, totally upside down in the eggs, and probably drowned right around when everyone else was pipping.
However, even if I had cut the eggs right when the rest pipped, I don't think those two babies would have righted themselves toward where I slit. One baby was totally wrapped under the yolksac, and the other was fully developed and totally upside down.

Major bummer, because the baby with the coolest pattern was one of the deads! (Looked just like a "labyrinth", and while I know those aren't genetic...they look cool!)

Gender count: 2.2 - Interesting observation - both babies that didn't have fully closed belly buttons were female.
