Question sub-adult compared to baby

flirtycuddle Dec 31, 2007 12:24 PM

I bought a red saharan that is about 1 and a half or so. I love these animals so I also bought a baby that is about 3in total length. My question is they are in identical enclosures except the baby has paper towels as the substrate and the sub adult is on play sand. The older uro is so much more active and alert and climbs the basking area and everything. The baby on the other hand doesn't like to do much at all besides eat and sleep. the baby is always in the hide on the warm side and never really out basking. Is this normal for a baby compared to an older uro?

I have an adult yellow Saharan and two baby Saharans that are about four months old. They are all three quite active during the day. One of the babies is much more outgoing than the other, she always comes out to say hello, licks fingers looking for food anytime I have to put my hand into the enclosure for anything, and is completely un-phased by our three cats or people walking nearby. The other baby is more skittish, hides a lot when there is any activity nearby, but when she can't see anybody in her room, she is out basking, eating, running around like a crazy girl.

Have you had the young one in for a vet check? Any chance of parasites slowing him down? Also do a double check of the temperatures in his cage - even though everything is identical in both cages, the ambient room temps could mean the cage temps are slightly different.
