If you like ball pythons, boas, geckos and turtles....go for it.

If you are only interested in monitors, I would pass on the show.

If you're specifically going in search of varanids you might not be satisfied, that is if last year's show was typical. A heap of ball pythons & geckos, but what show isn't consumed by those.

Last year was my first time going and I breezed thru the show fairly quick, not sightseeing or stopping to look at the "1 billionth BP produced in captivity." I think I saw 3 or 4 vendors with a monitor or two.

But still, it was a big show, a lot of vendors, and there were other reptiles worth stopping to look at. A lot of big name people that have made an impact in the reptile world.

I'll most likely go again this year even though it's an 1100-mile round trip for me. But then again, I've also got family & friends an hour away from Daytona.

Later!

I've been the last two years and I will go again this year. There is not a lot of selection on monitors, though I cannot say I've seen many shows with much more than Boscs and Niles anyways with the exception of the last Reptile Super Show in San Diego. I have attended shows in TX, LA, NM (now defunct, stupid city ordinances), CA, KY, and FL.

My favorite part of Daytona is that I can talk with some of the biggest names in herps, from breeders to importers to researchers as well as fellow hobbiests. And I also get to hand pick from a wide selection of higher end snakes at competitive pricing. So, I think every herper should go at least once.

Shows shouldn't be about what type of animal the trade favors. Shows are all about reaffirming friendships and making new ones. It may sound sappy, but some of the best conversations I've had have been round table style in the Hotel Bar with the old, new, and up & comers in the trade. It's all about the atmosphere and the deals to be had at 2:00pm Sunday

Daytona has been lame for a few years now.

this year, there are a significant number of "big breeders" that have given up their tables (8-12 at a time) and dropped the show.

the foot traffic isn't what it was, the buying crowd is definitely not what it was, and the experience as a whole isn't near what it was.

Tinley Park is put on better, gets a similar sized crowd, and you see the same breeders and dealers.

is it worth 2000 miles? dude, it isn't even worth 400 miles anymore.

you have Tinley Park, you won't see anything different but palm trees and an ugly town.
