I tried FORCE FEEDING but it won't take it down/Anole ?'s

blaino_murph Aug 25, 2003 08:38 PM

It's a baby albino corn snake. I wettened down the pinkie. I got the head in it's mouth but it won't take it. It thrashes it's head back and fourth like a shark. I'm to scared to slowly shove it down it's throat. I don't want it to het pissed at me and bit me.

How do I cut of an Anoles tail? Will it hurt it? Will it bleed do death? Do I cut the tail off or pull it off?

Is there a herp club in your area?Did you buy the snake in your town?It takes practice to force feed so stay at it.Im finding it hard to believe that little snakes bite is going to mame or kill you.Mouse tails would have been a better choice.Find a petstore/herpclub in your area and get some help. All of us here have went the distance to help you now it's up to you to find local help that can assist you.Maybe someone here lives close enough to come over and help you out.I live in central illinios and if your within a couple hour drive i will personally help you out.Just tell us your general area you live in and state.Dont give out personal details in here.Your gonna crap your pants at how easy it is to force feed that little guy with some practice.Dont give up...Paul.

1. a baby corn snake bite will not hurt at all, so don't be afraid. (it's hard to control reactions. I still move carefully when a little snake is trying to bite me, even though I know it won't hurt)
2. it's ok to be cautious.
3. you might want to try with a part of a mouse tail, they are easier to get down. maybe a pinkie head.
4. anole: if you grab it's tail, the tail will probably come off. They are able to drop their tails when they feel threatened, so no, it wouldn't bleed to death.
5. good luck!

i've found that pinky mouse heads do better than anoles when you're trying to encourage a hatchling to eat. if you've got any hatchlings or small snakes, you can feed the rest of the body to them. they don't seem to mind.
another suggestion, one that has worked very well for a few of my shy babies, is to 'split brain' the pinky. i know it's a little gross (but then so's cutting off its head) but you take a Clean thumbtack or needle or something else sharp you won't be putting in your mouth any day soon, and push it into the pinkie's forhead. rub what comes out on the pinkie's nose and head, then give it to the baby. put the baby somewhere dark and leave him for a little while, see if that works.
let us know how it goes!
