Found something that helps with cricket smell; any inputs??

eva Aug 25, 2003 08:42 PM

I wanted to use up the rabbit pellets that I had purchased for the dragons and thought that I can use it as a substrate for the crickets. I found that it works as a backup food source AND it is an execellent odor inhibitor.

Does anyone have any inputs to this? Anything harm this may cause?

Might be a good idea just got to be careful about how you give them water. If it gets moist bacteria could grow on them. I'm so upset I ordered 3 thousand crix three days ago. I must have lost 2 thousnad. Got no idea why. Same as I always keep them. Just seems like they all gravitated to the corners and died. I always house them in a glass enclosure with no substrate and open top. Somehow I don't know how but it seems like the moister killed them. I was thinking about maybe substate to stop this. I'm stumped same food, same hide setup, clean, yet most of my order died in two days. Really annoying when you have so many mouths to feed.

Thanks for the response. I'm careful where I put the greens and the water source so that the pellets don't get wet.

The times I had crix die like the way yours died were when I had some soap residue in the container, and when I kept the crix in the garage. It was either too humid or too hot for them.
