What gives now with the Ornates ????

Peeperskeeper Jan 02, 2008 12:43 PM

We have five rescues and four of the five finally when under after Kens advice of "just keep Putting them back in their homes".
Then on Christmas eve we had rains, high winds and temps in the 50's but at night 30's. The next morning one came up with a runny nose. Now we have temps in the 20's and teens at night and all but one came up this morning. I checked then at 7:00 this morning and they were up sunning but it was 22 degrees very windy and their noses were running like faucets. Everyone of the ornates are in maybe for the winter.
Not one eastern was up or has come up since they went under.

Any advice on why this is happening they were late rescues and not native like the easterns are to this area. Thanks

Thats very similar to what my Ornates do a lot of the time but I'm in the Houston area. I have no clue why they do it, mine just act like they're confused.

Mine do the same. Peepers, mine came up at the same time yours did from the same weather front. Thankfully, though, they all went back under without issue. I have had to keep many an ornate in for the winter over the years, but each year the number decreased. I am considering buying an old refrigerator and wintering them artificially since these fluctuations are so common in our area.

Mine are in their native region, so far nobody has come up. They haven't because they are in their native region?? I guess so?
I'm confused about why they'd do that too.

Thanks for the posts it does give a little piece of mind.
I just wish the could get adapted so their cycle was true. That would be healthier for them I believe.
