building a terrarium have ?

AdamsMom Aug 25, 2003 08:57 PM

I am building a terrarium for some tropical plants. I plan to make it 2'x 2'x 6' high. it will be in a corner so only the front and side will be acrylic from top to bottom, front will be a door. It will have a slat tile floor and white tile board up against the wall sides. It will have screen on the top and lighting. Could I house my WTF in there?

The tank dimensions sound OK but it would have to have a softer substrate than slate.
You would need bed a beast or something similar and a water bowl to say the very least.

You may be limited to what plants you could put in there due to some being toxic. Thats another consideration.

So I guess the answer is up to you, if you made those modifications, it should be an awesome tank.

I do plan on the water dish.My floor is still up in the air,the tile will be there to protect the base from water damage mainly. I have already found the plant lists that have safe plants so that won't be a prob. I just want to make a nice place where he can feel safe and have lots of room and not be just another aquarium I have 7 of those!

I, too, have over a dozen hermit crabs. I'm finding it quite fun to plan our new WTF's tank as I can plan a non-beach scene for once! (Not that I don't love the hermits...) LOL!

LOL and just the opposite here! I enjoyed doing the beach thing after having 3 other tanks just full of the Jungle look LOL

My critter list...

4 Hermies
2 Red Eyed Tree Frogs
37 Cuban Tree Frogs (34 of them are babies that I hope to have homes for SOON!!! Anyone want some? LOL)
2 Xmas Toads
2 cats
1 dog
1 husband
1 2 1/2 year old daughter

Sounds like a jungle at your home! LOL!
I've had the hermits 10 years, and various desert snakes and lizards. Not very lush tanks!
My boa and my ball python (recent additions) are the closest I had to jungle creatures before my daughter's Whites Tree Frog, and they have easy-care tanks right now.
This frog tank is fun!
I have:
1 White's Tree Frog,
1 Boa
1 Ball python,
1 Mexican Black Kingsnake,
1 Gray-banded Kingsnake,
1 Eastern Chain Kingsnake,
9 Bearded Dragons,
1 Dumbo Rex pet rat,
1 Betta fish,
2 Fancy Goldfish,
2 Dwarf Clawed Frogs,
and over a dozen hermit crabs (lost count, and they never are all above-ground at the same time, with all the molting).

also, make sure the temps and humidity are perfect within the enclosure. what heat source will you use!? how will you control the humidity!? how will you monitor the humidity!!??? all these questions are answered on my website in the WTF section.

I plan on also having temp and humidity guages inside. Thought of making some kind of water feature in there. Will try different things and watch what happens to the humidity. As for heat I plan on a heat lamp up top, but am still thinking about uth and how to use it on the bottom. This is still in the planning stages yet so open to any changes. My frog will not go in till it is the right enviroment for him.
