Young snake not feeding this winter

Snakemother Jan 03, 2008 05:59 AM

Hello! I was wondering if it's normal for a yearling ball python to go off feed for the winter? My pastel male yearling has stopped feeding a month ago, and while I don't worry about my two older ball pythons (who also stopped feeding), I'm worried about this guy because he's little yet.
How young is too young for this winter fast?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

I know the feeling also. I have a Albino babie girl just over 150 grams. She last ate 10/15/07. But she will, she is just being special . Good luck Claude

I've heard it called "the wall" when a snake hits a certain age/weight and stops feeding, even though it's not large enough to breed. Chances are your snake just hit the wall!

I personally wouldn't completely stop offering food until march, but every other week to every three weeks just keep trying until the snake picks back up again. My snakes never completely stop eating until March, but they're spotty enough about it to make me want to pull out my hair!

Good luck!
