Epicrates striatus subspecies

EpicratesUK Jan 03, 2008 10:32 AM

Hi,

Just a little follow-up on the previous thread...I was wondering, if there is anybody who keeps the other subspecies of Epicrates striatus such as Cat Island boas (Epicrates s. ailurus) or Ragged Island boas (Epicrates s. mccraniei)? Are there any around? I seem to remember that I have read in a forum somewhere that there were some Ragged Island boas in captivity, but I might well be wrong?

Also, I would not mind to see some pics of some Island Epicrates people keep

Gerald

Gerald,
...Thanks for posting the PICs. As far as I know the mccrainei and ailurus are not kept in private collections in the US. I think I saw mccrainei at a zoo somewhere once.

Gerald,
...The three subspecies of striatus that are kept and bred in very small numbers by US private breeders are the Haitian and the Bimini and the Andros/Berry Island subspecies.

Jeff,

Thanks a lot for taking time to reply to my questions.

This is a bit the reply I feared to read (concerning the Cat Island and Ragged Island boas). But hopefully there will be a chance for me to add at some point some more fowleri and also fosteri or red striatus to my collection.

Thanks,
Gerald
