Jungle vs. Pastel

shortgrassherps Jan 03, 2008 11:40 AM

I'm sure this has been discussed before here, but I am still unable to pin down a definitive answer:

Is there a difference between a jungle and a pastel (or “pastel jungle” vs. “pastel”)?

I keep finding different answers to this seemingly simple question and just keep getting more confused. Initially, I had thought that they were 2 separate morphs...the jungle being a pattern based morph while the pastel was a color based morph, but now I'm not so sure.

Recently, I have been under the impression that the "jungle pastel" was really just the first name that has now later been shortened to just "pastel".

Thanks in advance for input!

To quote the barkers in their "Ball Pythons" book:

"The jungle is a heartbreaker of a morph. Jungle ball pythons can be among the most beautiful of ball pythons, easily distinguished by a suite of characteristics. Unfortunately, however, the appearance is not inheritable. Hatchlings with the jungle appearance just occasionally appear serendipitously in clutches of eggs."

And, to answer your question about the pastel:

"The pastel was originally identified as the "pastel jungle", but the name has been contracted in general use to simply "pastel"."

Easy enough. Thanks for helping to clarify.

Jenny:

This is an ignorance based question. Is the term jaguar synonomis with the term jungle.

Here is one I hatched out in 07.

Thanks

In the case of the snake pictured, yes. I do not have my book in front of me, but that looks exactly like a jungle.
