Baby Jacksons keep dying

Dinobot711 Aug 25, 2003 09:21 PM

Hey everyone I had a question about my friends chameleons. She has a female Jackson that has had two sets of babies but when she finds them in the morning they are dead. Most looked kinda like they had part of the birth covering on them but some looked like they had moved a little. Her setup is really nice, it's a 160 reptarium with a humidifier and a basking area and alot of plants. Were not sure if there comming out dead or if there sick or anything. What could cause this and what could she do? I'll try to get her to post more info to. Thanks in advance!

It could be that the 160 gal reptarium is too big for the babies to move around in and get to the heat and food. I'd try switching them to a smaller cage like a 65 gal reptarium or even the 25, depending on how many there are and how big the babies are.

Does she mist often? Sounds like low humidity to me, with the membrane sticking. Also, what time has she found them in the morning, perhaps something is causing the female to have them at night, maybe too much activity during the daylight?

There could be several factors contributing to these unexplained deaths. Without seeing her pictures of the actual habitat, we would be guessing -

Maybe too large of a cage (mentioned), so that the female is dropping them from too great a height. Not enough cushioning for the impact? Branches and plants not arranged to suit the female - and she climbs to the top.

It would be helpful if we knew more about the set-up and the female's diet and environment.
