Hi.
I've got 1.4 ball pythons. Normals. It's quite a coincidence that i got that spread, since i never kept them for breeding. I've always been a ratsnake person. But my girlfriend really liked them so i kept a few for her sake. But lately i've been getting more and more interested in bp morphs. I don't have a lot of money, but if i were to go into it, it would be to have a shot at working with some great animals.
But wich morphs would be ideal to start out with? If i want a chance to go far in terms of different kinds.

thanks.

A pastel male would be a really cheap snake and could breed to all four of your females next year and could produce some expencive female pastels and there just really pretty.

If I were to start over with just four females. A Pastel male, be picky. Get one you really like the looks of. A Spider female, again be picky. Get one you really like the looks of. Spiders are known for head wobbles. Don't let that stop you . They are also known for having a color and pattern mutation.(green eyes) Feeding well and breeding young. That will get you started nicely. Good luck and happy breeding. Claude

Great suggestions so far. The pastel male is a great starter to make combos with. A pastel pair, and a spider and mojave female and maybe even a cinnamon female would be good to make many different snakes with. You could probably get those 5 snakes for $1500 or so, especially if you did a package deal with one person.

Good Luck.

My snakes aren't fat, they're big boned.

I would throw a Pinstripe in there. They are one of my favorite morphs. You could pick up a Pastel, Spider, and a Pin pretty reasonable. Can make some really cool looking snakes in the next several years with them including Bumblebees, Blast, and Spinners.

A pair of pastels is a great way to start.....in a few years you might be able to get another codom male and make a combo with the pastel female you're growing up.......

you should be able to get a pair of pastels very inexpensively.

If you are looking for something to breed to your females - I wouldn't go with breeding pastels unless your females are outstanding looking - pastels are so cheap you can buy some nice ones for next to nothing and if your aren't selectively breeding pastels you might just get stuck with a bunch of ugly offspring you can't get rid of. I would go with either pinstripe or mojave or even a spider or cinny all really inexpensive animals with great potential. But it would really depend on the look of your normals.

If you are looking to start up a breeding project - then I would find some really nice pastel females and grow them for a year or two see where the market is and pick up something to make combos with at that point.

Guess it depends really on what you want to do, how big you want to go and how much you want to spend.

Hi all.

Thanks for the replies.
I got a lot of good input! I have about 700€ to spend, and i think i'm gonna go for a pair of pastels for starters.
I don't wanna go to extremes, i just a chance to work with some really nice animals!

A pair of Pastels is not a bad choice, but, it will give you two of the same morph to stare at for the next year or three. If you can swing it, and do not HAVE to produce a Super Pastel, I would try to go Cinn and Pastel, or Spider and Pastel or even just a Pin male.

How old are your .4 snakes? If they are 07's, I would say get a Pastel female now, and maybe a Cinn or Spider male later. Get your females first, as they take the longest to mature, and the price will go down on the male, if you wait a year. However, if your females are almost adult size, I would get a Pin male to breed to the 4 females.

A Pastel female is never a bad buy. You might want to get a Pastel and Cinn female this year, and a Pin or other male next year...all depends on the age of your animals now, and what you actually want to produce. Pin x Pastel is stunning!

Another route, Mojaves make white snakes, and so do Yellow Bellies, if you like white snake, maybe one of those would be a good choice.

My pics are Pastels, Cinn close up, and Mojaves.
