Hey Dave,
What, you didn't have enough "film" in the camera? You only posted, I don't know, around 200 pictures?

Very cool. I love the way the black part of the circles under the crescents kinda bleeds out and down.

Dave any thoughts to why his pattern has faded or why others have broken ones like Porky and someone else has one that I saw that looked like it was made up entirely of X's on the dorsal pattern and was kind of lightish red-orange in color and very impressive but can't remember where. Their site is on ks businesses though but one day I'll stumble upon it and steal it ( guilty of rambling again)

glad to hear that she is thriving in your care but which ones don't Dave

rainbowsrus Jan 05, 2008 03:29 PM

Not all thrive, sadly had to put one down this year. Born with a deformed jaw, could not keep fluids in.

Also, have one baby that has not eaten and refused all atempts at force feeding. Still looks OK so will keep on trying.

Funny though, I've had some go out and not do so well. A few of those have come back for me to care for and every one has done fine when back in my care. I credit the setup, my babies love my tub racks!!!

The Motley boys were sooooo good about sharing, (as long as both females were receptive) "you take that one and I'll take this one"

Amber, super salmon pos jungle bred by Snickers, salmon pos jungle. Gravid - dunno, looks decent sized and have not seen any breeding activity in a while so????

Candy, pastel circle back ladder tail, bred by Reeses. I bet money and give odds she's gravid, had a pre-ov swell, ovulation was huge, Reeses ignored her afterwards and has had her post-ovulation shed. Due date is 04/09/2008.

Cinnamon, salmon with Pepper, Aby - she looks gravid but not certain and pepper still courting on and off so????

Spirit, Ghost being bred by Boo, Ghost - been at it for weeks straight.

Taffy, DH sunglow with Dagwood albino - Gravid - dunno, maybe, can't tell for sure - no recent activity.

Tootsie, Anery het snow with York, Albino het snow. Gravid?? maybe, can't tell for sure - no recent activity.

Ruby with Nestle, she's in full on ovulation, Nestle was still smelling the lingering pheromones and half heartedly courting her. Now totally ignoring her, she's gravid - done with her!!

Reeses breeding Coral, he took a couple of weeks off to shed and back in the saddle for him.

Nestle no longer breeding his female, with Ruby only - post ovulation. Now what to do with this stuff??

Crystal and Fireball, maybe pre-ovulation swelling?

Dave,
Where do you find the time? Just awesome. The 'pearls' are something else.

Paul

rainbowsrus Jan 05, 2008 03:49 PM

Hey Paul, I've got the system down.

First, the "studio" is the top of a cage in the middle of my room. Always there and usually have to clear something off it but with all the sessions it rearely is much.

Second, the lighting is overhead track lighting with a mix of normal and GE reveal bulbs with the top of the cage having a nice assortment of lighting.

Third, I take pics when they shed, first pic is of tub label or record card so I can keep track of who is who. Then I have a quick process of taking four to six pics from each of three angles, half without and half with flash. The whole pic process takes less than a minute. If you look closely at any set of pics, quite often the snake has not had time to move, just the camera angle.

Fourth, for larger snakes, I have a set of different sized bowls. Two of each, each with a notch cut out of the side. I line up the notches and direct the snake in. As it goes in, I turn the bowls to keep the opening as small as possible to keep it from just coming back out. Once all the way in, the notches are turned so there is no way out. Then I place a weight on top and proceed with cage cleaning. That time allows the snake to settle in and usually, when I pull the bowl I have a minute to take pics before the snake moves.

The most time consuming part is processing the pics into cropped, cleaned up, postable sized pics. But I've gotten pretty good at it and I really don't tweak the individual pics very much. I use Picasa to process and there's a "I feel lucky" button that seems to work great for fixing up most of the lighting/coloring.

>>Dave,
