let me put it this way, you could keep 5 babies in a 10 gallon tank for about 2 months depending on their growth rate. think about it this way, how many body lengths is it for them to cross the cage? If they are 3" long and the cage is 20" long he has to run 6 times his body length to catch a cricket at the other end of the tank, assuming he sees it and nothing is blocking his view. so by putting them in a small tank to start it makes it easier for them to feed. they dont need to ram around and stake out territory. in fact they will feel more secure in a smaller tank if you cover the glass on the bottom so they cant see through it.
before you know it they will be plenty big and you can give them a lot more room. for now, make feeding as easy for them as possible, dont make them hunt for food.
Make sure they have a gradient 110-120 for basking and a cool side in the low 80's. use a temp gun to measure basking temps and if you need to get the light closer you can always put something in for babies to climb. they are good at regulating themselves that way. (for safety sake not to close)
good luck
