Contrasting Colors

waspinator421 Jan 05, 2008 01:43 PM

Was cleaning in the snake room last night and just couldn't get over the contrast between Mauve and Amethyst. I just had to whip out my camera and take a few pictures. They were not being cooperative, and were constatly trying to get out of that tub!

Mauve is a HUGE yearling from Dave Colling. Amethyst was sold to me as a 4.5 year old, but I honestly don't think that is possible for how small she is. They would have to have been starving her. She has already grown some since I got her, too.

Also, I think the previous owner may have been feeding her live or something, because it looks like she has a scar on her head.

Amethyst's color came out a little more orange that she really is. She is more of a yellow/orange.

I find it so amazing how much BRBs can differ in colration without having anything genetic going on. I just can't get enough of BRBs... I LOVE THEM!

I love the second to last pic. Those are both beautiful snakes. I think the darker ones really shine with the irredescents.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Paul! Yeah, the dark ones really light up the room with their iridescense!

Hey Aubrey, wow that's a great set of pics. Really shows off the differences between the lighter and darker animals. While I do prefer the lighter ones myself, there is a LOT to be said for the irridescence in the darker ones. Wow!!!

Thanks for sharing, I'm thinking I'm gonna steal a few of those for examples of the irridescence. Mind if I post one or two on my website?

Stunning contrast!

Not 100% sure, but the darker one looks a lot like an Isla Marajo from the shape of its head and thickness of dark markings.

Thanks! The darker one is Mauve, a Dave Colling girl. I trust him when says that she is a Brazilian.

That's that then. Not been on the forum for ages, so unsure as to who has who!

Kind of thrown a spanner in the works as I've been looking for a definitive method of differentiating E.C barbouri from E.C.C for the past few years, admittedly with a small sample size of animals from the UK and pictures on the web, but head shape has been something I've been looking into. The majority of brbs in the UK have heads the shape of the paler snake in previous photo and Marajos the same as the darker. Hmmmmmm.
