retained shed?

gardenlady Jan 05, 2008 03:06 PM

I recently purchased a 3-4 year old uromastyx. He has what I believe is retained shed on his neck. Its appearence is as a dry white patch, which is also quite hard. Am I correct in thinking this retained shed? What can I do for it? Thank you for any advice.

If the patch really is stuck shed and not a fungal infection or something, then you can try getting some food grade mineral oil for it. Rub a drop or two into the skin. It should soften it up - make it easier for him to rub it off. Just don't pull it off yourself.

Thank you! I assume that if it is a fungal infection that it will not respond to the mineral oil. If it looks like a fungal infection, take him to the vet or is there something at the feed store or over the counter human treatment that will treat it? Thank you again for your help!

If you think it's something besides retained shed, definitely visit the vet!
