T'puram: After netting three men in Kannur with Rs 6.5 lakh worth snake venom on Tuesday, the Forest Vigilance came up with a much-bigger haul her on Wednesday night.
Working on a tip-off received by the Forest Intelligence, Forest Vigilance officials arrested a man belonging to Kannur from a hotel at Thampanoor with half-a-litre of snake venom.
The venom is worth about Rs 40 lakh, Forest officials said. The man, identified as Mohammed Shafi, 34, was planning to strike a deal for the venom. Another person, Mani, who was with him escaped.
The vigilance team handed Shafi over to the Paruthippally Forest Range. He will be produced in the court on Thursday.
In Kannur, the Forest Intelligence had arrested three men, including a junior superintendent of the DDE’s office, with 22 gms of snake venom. Paruthippally Range Officer Shyam, Forest Vigilance officers Jaleel and M Ashokan effected the arrest.
