I have never set up such a system but I would imagine somewhere almost out of reach would be ideal, I always have problems with my rodents chewing on the plastic caps of my water bottles. I have observed some good photos online of gravity feed systems. Maybe it would be good to duplicate soem of those. Below is a good photo I found doing a simple google search for "Rodent watering systems"

If you used the wire I think 1/2 inch. They make clips you feed the tune through the clip and the nipple goes on the other end. That way you can either unclip it or leave it attaced. Is sound sliek you just made tops and not a rack. I think that would work.

im in the process of building a rat shed, then i may build some racks, but for right now i just got about 6 tubs

When I used just lids. I just used a piece of wood to angle the bottles. I still have and used bottles in my rack. I have a few trays and like the fact it makes me get back there with the rats to see what is going on. I had two floods and lost alot of rats. But we all start somewhere. Also if you are using the cement tubs look around at a lot of racks. I have some flex issues. But have seen a few different racks that solve that with a couple of different methods. Todd
