Pics of big indicus in the wild

guamturtle Jan 06, 2008 12:39 AM

This is one of the biggest V indicus I have seen in the wild. I saw this big guy while driving back to my work place. I just happened to look on the side of the road and right there basking on a big ifil trunk was this lizard. This guy was at least 4.5 feet long and super thick. I started taking pics from across the road, then decided to try my luck and slowly walked closer to him. I got within 5 feet of him! I usually only get within 15 feet of the smaller guys before they run away. This guy wasn't much scared of me. He did eventually start puffing up his throat (sign of aggression). I could have easily grabbed his tail and caught him but for some reason I felt like he should be left alone and allowed to finish off his basking session in peace. Awesome encounter!!! ~fn-hdbng

Pic taken from across the road. Can you see him?

Closer basking shot:

Here he is puffing up his throat. He was starting to get mad.

Look at that mouth!

Close up of his face.

The pics don't really do this guy justice. He looked much bigger in person plus he had more yellow coloration than normal.

Thanks for posting these amazing pictures. It is always enjoyable to see shots of these animals in their natural environment.

Those pics surely do that animal justice. I bet you could not catch him. He had his eye on you, one false move and bam, hes outa there.

Yes, the big ones think they have no reason to run, but once you break a certain distance, that changes.

How is that little one you were keeping getting along?

Those animals in your area are really nice. Cheers

Awesome, I love monitors but just don't think I could make the room to maintain one properly. Thanks for posting the pictures.
