He Won't Eat Infront of me

palouch86 Jan 06, 2008 02:11 PM

My 4 month old beardie will not eat in front of me when I put food in his cage. The moment I leave the room, he devours all of it and quickly returns to his basking spot. He is still in his break in period, as he arrived 1 month ago. I handle him daily and he is still a bit jumpy. He was the alfa male of his litter.

However, he will take food out of my hand (worms)

He is also not very interested in vegies.

Any ideas so that I can get him to eat in front of me, and eat more vegies in his own tank?

If I were you I'd just be happy that he eats. I took in a rescue a few weeks ago that won't eat at all. He's lost 40 grams and neither I nor either of my vets know why.

Just keep putting in a salad and he will eventually learn to eat it. I always start mine on mustard greens and romaine. When they start eating it regularly I slowly replace the romaine with more nutritious options.

i had a bd that came in that would take the veggies(romaine and mustard) and hide the veggies in his hide log. i switched him to a basic spring mix and he ate it right up. try switching him around and see if that was causing him to not eat it.
