Some advice?

I have a California King that is approximately 2 years old. I have never had it probed, though the pet store told me that it was a male. He has been doing very well, eating regularly, growing like a weed. However today when I took him out of his cage, I noticed a small amount of blood around the cloaca. Not a lot, just a small drop, and he would whip around if my hand came anywhere near the tail. I will be planning a vet trip soon, but I would like to know if anyone has had any similar experiences and might be able to shed some light as to what has caused it. Perhaps he swallowed some substrate while eating? Or caught himself on a hide box? I'm not sure. But any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance,

Tony May

btw, I forgot to mention that I have had the snake for 18 months and have not had any issues as of yet. Again, thanks for any feedback.
