Hey, since the posts are getting deep below, I thought I'd bump this one up:

Thanks again for your input on the subject (fungus). It's nice to know that someone else had similar problems. I have to ask, how serious was your beardie's fungus problem? As I said, my tegu's arm area is having problems, and it looks like it hurts him to walk. He waves his arm/hand while he walks, like it hurts. I know it hurts when I touch it, because he pulls his hand away from me when I apply cream or pull of shed. Basically, when he moves now it looks like he is treating it as fragile, trying not to put pressure on it. We took x-rays and no broken bones. Does that sound like fungus? I'm pretty sure it's not MBD, he gets calcium/d3 suppliments, although the symptoms are like MBD.

Also, I got a response from my vet. He says the Nolvasan is a great product and to go ahead and try it, but DO NOT allow it to get into my tegu's eyes. He said it is safe to drink though. He has a left eye infection, maybe that's why, but how am I supposed to bathe my tegu without getting his eyes wet? All I can think of is to fill it up just enough so he can't submerge his head, and watch him carefully.

well i didnt think it was to serious. it was a yellow fungus that started aroung the vent and spread. nobody seemed to know what it was and it didn't seem to effect the animal at all. after several months I saw a post about the "yellow fungus" and began treatment. the fungus appeared to have stopped and the dragon seemed fine, eating, active, fgood size... then a few days later she died for no apparent reason.

the nolvasan will burn the animals eyes so its best to try and avoid getting the eyes wet. you can try filling a container so the water comes to his shoulders. use a sponge or cup and pour the water over his back and rub it over his head avoiding his eyes. if he submerges and it burns his eyes he will figure out not to do it again. tegus are smart! btw make sure you give him a plain warm water bath first so he will poop in the plain water not in the medicated bath.

did he recomend a cream/ointment (like lamasil or tenactin) to sooth the enflamed are?

if you wish to contact me off group feel free.

I'll continue to talk here as long as it's tegu-related. It may help somebody some day. That's kind of scary that your beardie died shortly after getting better (sorry to hear that). I've been reading about the yellow fungus, and it seems to only affect beardies, but this could be very similar. It is very obviously affecting his front limbs so I will try the Nolvasan. I ordered that and I also found a product called Zylafen:

ZYLAFEN® utilizes the Lactoperoxidase System plus the additional anti-microbial actions of Lysozyme and Lactoferrin to provide the most potent and safe treatment available for bacterial and fungal skin infections.

ZYLAFEN® is:

Antimicrobial, antiviral and antifungal 100% safe if ingested One step treatment that can be safely used on all reptiles

ZYLAFEN® is effective against the following reptile skin and mouth infections: SCUD (Septicemic Cutaneous Ulcerative Disease) Superficial lesions of the skin and shell Dysecdysis (abnormal shedding of the skin) Mouth rot Gingivitis

Looks great, right? I ordered some as well as the Nolvasan and I'll see what the vet thinks I should do. Yes, I was prescribed ointment for the limbs (silver sulfide I think).
