What is a BubbleGum Rat Snake...

ChrisErica Jan 06, 2008 06:18 PM

I recently went to a reptile show and saw a beautiful orange snake for sale. It was labeled a 'bubblegum' rat snake. It was so crowded, I didn't get a chance to ask the seller what is was. It was definitely an amel.

I have a leucistic texas rat snake and a sunglow corn that I'm thinking of breeding. I was wondering if this was it or is it more of a emory mixed with a amel cornsnake (isn't that a creamsicle)? I'm confused.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

BTW, unlike most other forums I think hybrids are beautiful.

I believe A Bubblegum rat is USUALLY 3 or more types of rat snake in one snake usually they are a cross between a Black rat, a Yellow rat, a Grey rat, and an Everglades rat. No Corn or Emory blood needed. (Though some are probably caring these bloods as well). HTH's

I always thought they were albino (amel) black X albino everglades.

Nice pics! I've seen breeders call just pure amel black rats bubble gum rats and also have seen amel corn x black rat called buble gums.

Thanks for the input everyone. I just wished I waited and asked the seller what that snake was made of. I'm assuming it had some sort of Everglades mixture to it. It was a beautiful solid orange with no sort of pattern to it.

Any idea who the seller was? Maybe they have a web site?

I saw it at the White Plains reptile show this weekend. It was definitely and 07. The first time I saw it was in Nov., then the same seller had it again and it was much more orange this time. Really pretty if you're into orange.

Solid orange makes me think of a hypo everglades. The bubblegums I saw were really very pink, in a saddle pattern, like you would think a amel black rat would look.

Man I sure hope it wasn't a hypo everglades. I would have scooped that baby up in no time. I never gave it any thought because it was labled a bubblegum and the dealer seemed reputable. I agree with you that the bubblegums I've seen are mostly pink. The next show is in April and hopefully the snake will still be there.

I don't have any baby picts of him digitally but this is my everglades 4 yrs ago. That bowl is a foot across. When he was little he was a dirty orange.

Can't find any picts of my nicely bred hypo everglades.

The white plains show, has a list of vendors, on the web site, and e-mail addresses as well. You could go to the web site, and e-mail the vendor, and reserve the animal in question, if it is still available. This would be the best option, as many vendors visit more than one show. HTH's.
By the way, if you do manage to get ahold of the vendor, please let us know, what it's heritage is. Bubblegums, seem to be many different things, to many different people. Good luck!!
