i have an idea....

uroplatusguy Aug 25, 2003 11:23 PM

here is a wild idea and i want other peoples advice on it. i want to try it but i want to have peoples opinions before trying it.
in october i plan on aquiring more leaftails. i am going to try to get a pair satanics, a pair of henkels and 2-3 female sikores. here is my idea : conventional worming works and i am not disregarding it but instead of trying several differnt medicens for diffrent problemsi was thinking about trying garlic on my animals for getting rid of their internal parasites. i have tried this on my wild breeder pair of discus and i know that they are fish but it got rid of their worms and other intrnal problems pretty good. anyways i was just wondering if this was an good idea or a bad idea. it worksd really good for fish and keeps them healthy. my main thing is that it is a food item and so i do not have to worry about overdosing the animals. any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I have never heard of this method before. I assume that it is a common practice with fish? In any case I don't think it is wise at all. Garlic is certainly not a natural food source for any geckos and should be avoided for that reason alone. On top of that you don't know how the acids/chemicals and whatever that are in garlic will affect the animals. It could be very harmful to their systems. It's just not a safe or guaranteed method. I would say absolutely not.

actually it's a new idea to fishkeeping . the whole thing is that some medicens that work on fish can cause more harm than good. since garlic is a food it cant really harm things as bad medicens can. i wanted peoples opinion before i did it. my idea was to feed the crickets garlic powder and then feed it to my cricekts. thank you for your opinion.

I kinda like the idea, but personally I wouldnt do it. You have to weight the consiquences... Best case it works wonders and you revolutionize treating herps.. Worse case you kill your animal, I wouldn't risk it but if you are perpaired to kill a uroplatus which by the way are haiving a hard enough time staying alive in the wild go for it..
