I recently got a leopard gecko for my birthday, and to this day, everything has been perfect. However, this last shed, I feel there was an incident in which his left eye came into contact with something during the shedding process and now he (I don't even know the gender is, but I've always referred to the lizard as a male) keeps the eye closed and hardly ever wants to open it. When I picked him up to look at it, he kept blinking that eye, and when I compared it to his good eye (the right one), it appeared as though the left one had some kind of irritation or something like that.
I don't know what's wrong with him, and I'm a student, so a trip to a vet would be very costly. Right now, I'm letting him rest in his hiding place and won't handle him for a bit, to see if the eye heals on his own. I'll post updates on his progress and hopefully he'll get better soon.
