CDieter Question (chemical blanket)

pfan151 Jan 07, 2008 01:53 PM

How often do you have to apply it? My pond is indoors so I an not really worried about the cold weather but I was wondering if it may help keep the evaporation down. It gets pretty humid in my reptile room so I was hoping this may help to keep the humidity down a little. Is it totally safe for fish as well?

I apply it at the beginning of a cold front to keep the maximum amount of heat in the pool.

Your question really goes to the heart of what the blanket does and that is prevent evaporation. This prevents the heat loss. Preventing evaporation is primarily what the product is used for in it's powder form and it is used extensively in the Middle East and other arid regions to prevent water supplies from evaporating.

It is totally safe for fish and is made from natural compounds that dissolve after several days.

Do you have a link to the companies site? I think I might give it a try. My pond is 10' x 10' so the humidity is pretty bad in that room.

We get it in 50lb bags. It lasts a loooong time. You may want alot less for such a small pool. 50lbs with a pool your size should last about 100 or so years If you need a little let me know.

You can learn more about the product below.

Last question. Do you think it will still work with a pump moving water? My pumps do not skim the surface, but there is a pretty decent current under water

Yes, we move the water with ours and the crocs come in and out of it. It seperates and then recovers. It's not unlike how a film works on the water with the exception that this is invisible once it dissolves.
