I got a new camera for Christmas and I needed to learn how to take some good close ups. I tried anyway!

Nice pics. What cam?

I like #1 but #3 best, 3 has good focus and a nice competition.

My hands are not as steady as they once were, so if I try to take pics like tha I have to bump up shutter speed. I'm in the mist of debating what I even prefer, a canon power shot or an EOS.

It's a Powershot A720IS. It's great once you get used to it. But unless you spend the extra 90$ for a macro light, it's crap for pics like that inside. Out of 50 pictures I got maybe 10 decent ones. These are some more, the light was wrong and she wouldnt stay still!

I was trying to focus on the Y so that one came out the way I wanted it to.

If you can kick up the shutter speed, it will help with a little movement, but it will drop your depth of field of course.

Nice thing about diggy is you can take 50 pics for practice and it costs nothing.

So those are withOUT a $90 macro flash?

Yes, those are without. When you take one without one inside you get a big shadow because the flash, IMO is in the wrong place. If you take them in a sun room or something they'll be fine, but other than that I've found no other way around the shadow. So outside would be the place for this camera. Here are some with the shadow. It ruins the picture
