Fungus on my new whites tree frog?

bgkast Aug 26, 2003 12:08 AM

I just got this frog from a good local pet store. Is this a fungus or is it just a natural marking? He/she has several of these markings on his/her back. Thanks for the help, I am new to whites tree frogs.

I don't believe thats fungus, but whatever it is can't be good. Is it part of the skin or does it have a different feeling to it?

It seems to be part of the skin.

I read on this care sheet: http://allaboutfrogs.org/info/species/whites.html

that they some times may have white spots on them. Is that what this looks like? Does anybody know what the spots are caused from? Thanks. -Bryan

The *normal* white spots on a WTF look more like little white freckles here and there without the added greyish spots in the middle like yours is showing.

I wasn't able to find any imformation for you, only a photo from another forum posted by someone who seems to be having the same problem. Only the spotting looks to have spread all over the poor frogs body (image below)

Personally, If I were you I would take your lil guy to the vet and have it looked at.

Well the spots do almost look like the "normal" spots just much smaller. I'll keep a eye on him for a few days and see if they change. We have a good herp vet on campus here that I can take him to. Thanks.

I don't know anything about what that could be or how fungus or whatever would necessarily look like on a frog, but that does look like some kind of disease or infection. There seems to be discoloration and the skin texture looks different, not like markings. The little spots look like the eggs the snails in my aquariums lay, not like frog spots.

I'd really have a vet see that, or at least show them the pictures or something. Good luck.
