Humidifers?

reptilian9 Aug 26, 2003 12:13 AM

After dealing with my tegu's skin problems, I've set up a new enclosure for him, and I plan on using a humidifier to keep the humidity up. He's getting my whole closet, about 6' long x 4' wide x 8' high. I was wondering if anybody here has used humidifiers for keeping small rooms humid. I went to Walmart and figured it would be easy, but now I don't know if I should get the Ultrasonic or mist/evaporating kind. They're all about the same price ($35), but I wonder most about whether the humidity will stay lower to the ground with an ultrasonic, because I don't want all the humidity rising to the ceiling only. Then there is also the ESU reptile fogger, which I can't seem to find in the local petstores. Any ideas?

i wouldnt get a fogger, they seem to break down within a year and i havnt had any luck with them. with humidifiers, make sure its a Cool Mist Humidifier. i had one in Taz's cage around a year ago. but when its going, put your face infront of it, and try to breath. its not that easy. and it was basically covering Taz's cage all on the bottom. so i took it out. i just soak him for like 5-15mins everyday, and spray his cage down. it seems to work fine. and if its gonna be 8' tall. make like a 3' "lip" on the bottom and fill it with dirt. your tegu will love you for it :D Taz tries to climb like my WD, but just falls... hehe, hes very clumsy when it comes to climbing. so what im saying is if its 8' tall hes not gonna be able to use it all. they mite try, but it probly wont work.
