Tony D - Hypo Coastals?

Joe_M Jan 08, 2008 01:10 PM

There was a pair at the WP show this weekend that were very "yellow" as opposed to your "white" ones you have posted. Is this lighting or are there two different lines out there? Both are very nice and I was just curious if there was a difference. Thanks.

Joe I've seen them go either way. My southern line tends to be more yellow while the more classic line from more limited southern MD stocks tend to be more white.

Hey Tony,

Which line were the pair I got from you this year from? I'd say MD since they are screamers -- just occurred to me I didn't ever bother to ask! Thanks...

I know at least the male you got was from the classic MD line. That was without a doubt the best hypo I ever produced! You should post a recent pic.

DMong Jan 08, 2008 04:25 PM

I'd LOVE to see a pic of that little tike!

I love those little "temporalis", and that goes DOUBLE for those hypos!

The first is the male in the add, he is less hypo-ish but is equaly lacks yellow. The second is the one sent to Chris. Really wish I'd had the time to get a good natural shot of him. He was one for the books but I like the higher contrast of the first animal too. These are sibling males.

Those are both EXTREMELY sweet animals!......thanks for posting those.

Yes, Chris was on the waiting list for 2 years because 06 was such a bad year for hypo production. I bred hypo to definate het pairs and produced like one hypo. The same pairings in 07 produced more typical results.

BTW the female hypo I'm holding for you is doing very well!

Burnsy Jan 09, 2008 07:27 AM

Got the pics mixed uo, my bad, sorry!

Hey there, happy new year. Bob Deptula is usually the guy having them there. I think all his line are pure calvert unless he recrossed back his dbl het striped hypo line. How is your little buddy doing in brumation? Jeff

Joe_M Jan 08, 2008 04:07 PM

Happy New Year Jeff. It was Bob that had them. I really wanted to, but I think my wife would have killed me if I came home with two more!
I had to warm the little guy up in early December as he was having a hard time shedding, the went through a little resp. problem (Thanks Jeff Hardwick and Cole). Offered him a pinkie and he took it right away, and he's been taking 2-3 pinks every 3-4 days and doing great now.

Joe, you have my number. If you are having problems like that please let me know. I am local, and you know I wont blow you off. That is a very special snake to ALL of us,lol. PS, I may have females for you....

Joe_M Jan 08, 2008 04:48 PM

Thanks Jeff. As for the females, I am DEFINITELY sure my wife would kill me if you sent those 2 blondes over to the house, lol. Now seriously, I don't think the little guy is ready this year, and hope to find some locale, but will be in touch.

Agreed! Hope this line of Amel eastern takes! I saw the original from Ohio a decade back at Don Hamper's house and this one is heads and shoulders above that one as far as attractiveness goes.

Joe_M Jan 09, 2008 12:15 PM

Although I have only seen pictures of Don Hamper's old line, I agree with you. I hope this line stays as attractive as adults, as this one is definitely a screamer now.

Joe I would definitely try to keep that line as local specific as possible at least up front. Doing so will bump up their value by limiting the number of females you can breed him too (limiting supply) and keeping the locality enthusiasts interested (maximizing demand).

Alternatively, if you are unable to locate a locality-matched female by the time he is ready to breed, I would consider outcrossing. It would be a shame to loose that animal and its genetic potential while stubbornly waiting for a locality matched female.

Just my two cents.

Joe_M Jan 09, 2008 12:11 PM

Thanks Tony. Your thoughts are very reasonable.
